It's HEEEEEERE !!!

MY GENIE HAS FINALLY ARRIVED!!

Ok, I understand, you probably aren't as excited as I am, but let me tell you, today was 10 Christmas's rolled into one.

This monster box of 65 lbs was shipped from the other coast via UPS. Because of my personal experience with them, I have been nervous since it left the warehouse, ok terrified, I admit it. But, just look at that box! Not a dent or scratch on it. YAY!!!! Sa-weet!

It was 5 minutes to set it up. (After 15 of unpacking the packaging.)

This is it, what I have been waiting for. This thing reeks of quality. Everything is well thought out and well made. The motor is an American made industrial motor of renown reputation- a Baldor.

The grinding and polishing wheels are the best in the business. On the left (top) are forming wheels, 80 grit, 220 and 280; on the right (bottom) are the polishing wheels 600, 1200, 3000 and on the end is a flat lap pad of 14,000. All these wheels are kept cool with a continuous mist of water. You can see the misting apparatus in the top picture.

It is recommended that you break in your wheels with some hard agate. I'm a jasper fan, myself, but I did happen to have some Graveyard Plume and I immediately sat down to wear in the wheels. I couldn't work too long in the house because the Genie didn't arrive until 6:30 PM- yeah, our UPS truck is always late. (I was anxiously waiting for this thing allllllll day!)

Stay tuned next time for the good stuff.... the rocks.... I got about 10 packages of slabs in the mail today and I can't wait to show you some of the slabs, preforms and a few finished cabs.

Some days, are just plain more awesome than others. :)

  1. You win!! You win!! We also win, because this means that we get to see more of what you can do with such an awesome machine. You must have woken up this morning thinking about your Genie. I guess you could say, "I dream of Genie!!"

Ohhh, I can't wait to see your pretty cabs.

    1. I could barely sleep last night, so I woke up late! Argh! Less time in the day now! LOL! I did dream of Genie, though. :D

I'll be taking lots of pictures today, too. :)

  2. Tela, I'm so happy for you! I can feel your excitement! You're learning and doing so much that is new to you yet is not really. You already know so much about stones this just completes the whole process.

I'm thinking I need a kick in the butt. I've been in a funky slump. We've had issues going on with our house and I've had health issues to take care of. I've had a month of withdrawals from my wire and I sure miss it! Have a blast today. I can't wait to see the end product!

    1. Thank you, Kate :) I'm really sorry to hear about your slump. I know all too well how horrible they are, but be assured that they eventually lift and you'll be back at making your beautiful jewelry in no time. :)But, first, you have to take care of yourself, and that is time well spent.

    1. Hi Christine, I don't think I'll be creating any magic too soon. I need to learn the ropes, first. :) But thanks for believing in me. I had a few set backs today, so it's nice to know I have someone in my corner. :)

  4. I am so jealous!!! You and I started cabbing about the same time. I finally found a mineral & gem society near me - a whole hour away :( that I can only get to on Saturday mornings. We have full use of their machines and gracious instruction, but did I mention it's a whole hour away! I am so frustrated waiting for Saturday to come. I could practice and learn so much faster if I had my own set-up.... like YOU are now going to be able to do. I am very, very, happy for you!!!

    1. Good for you!!! Our club stopped doing the cabbing right when I found it. At least you get to go once a week. But, I do understand how long that week must feel like. Once you're hooked, you're hooked! Let me tell you, I have a trim saw- go buy a tile saw at the big box store for under 100- and I have bought rocks on eBay that I knew I could cut with it. You want to talk about addictive??!!! Cutting open a rock is like treasure hunting! It is soooo fun! But, that's another blog... I'm really happy for you to be on this adventure with me. :) Are you posting any pictures anywhere? Have you joined Rock Tumbling Hobby? They are a great group of rock people online.

    2. I know! Don't tell anyone, but I am more addicted to this than I am to making the jewelry itself. It is SO NICE to have found a new passion in my *ahem* advancing age! I'm excited to have a goal for vacations (rock and fossil hunting) and be able to do something with what I bring back home. SO COOL!!! I did saw open a chrysoprase rough last week and made a beautiful little sumpin' sumpin' for my rock-star nephew. Your description of Treasure Hunting is right on the money.
Rock Tumbling Hobby looks like a winner forum! Thanks! Here's another, http://gemstone.smfforfree4.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=ebeb14aef37d5d2f1dcadd0081416655&

No, no photos yet, but they will come... they will come...

    3. I haven't seen that one yet- Thanks! :)And, hey- I won't tell, if you don't tell. LOL! There is something so satisfying to all this. The jewelry is total icing on the cake. To take a rock or slab all the way to a finished piece is incredible. :)
