Copper Versus Silver

This won't be a post going down a list of pros and cons for silver and copper; rather, it will be a visual comparison.

I finished cabbing a Royal Imperial Jasper the other day which has dark plum and rosy pink tones. This piece was given to me by a friend, who is also a fan of the stone. Then, a few days later, I cabbed a slice of RIJ nodule from eBay which has lighter tones of cream, gray and taupe. I love them both!

I wrapped the first one, the darker one, in copper, because the darker, warm metal tones are perfect with it. I think most would agree. :)

I wrapped the second in sterling silver, also a logical choice.

As most anyone who knows my work knows, I love copper. I love everything about it. But, as you can see by the pictures, it isn't always the best choice. And, I really can't even imagine the darker piece in silver. The many visual differences between the two are obvious when you look at it like this, back to back.

Anyway, I just thought you might find the pictures interesting. I did. I didn't plan on doing this. In fact, I don't usually do the same stone twice so close together. It gets boring. But, the differences in the two Royal Imperial Jaspers are just as big as in the metals, so it wasn't too boring.

The days are getting cooler. Soon, I won't be able to cab, so I have been doing a lot of cabbing. Here's a couple recent ones.

rutilated quartz freeform- upside down :)

Dolomite- soft stone, but incredible polish
Montana agate freeform- fun to work with
small Deschutes jasper- One of my favs. (also upside down)

Have fun and thanks for reading! :)

    1. Hi Christine :) You know me and jaspers. As much as I am beginning to love agates, it will always be jasper for me. :)

I'll try to get some more stones listed so you'll have more to choose from.

  2. Hello Tela. Copper or silver; each time you wrap it is always esthetically pleasing. I do agree with the darker hues in the stone needing that copper. Good choice. Is it just me or does the lighter stone seem to be looking at you? Oh, and that Deschutes jasper is amazing.

  3. I love copper and silver and both of these would look great in copper (to me). I love the shape of that Deshutes jasper and the Montana agate just speaks to me.

    1. I think you're right- the other would be fine in copper, too. Like yourself, I prefer copper. :)
